Renee Dumont: Bio

Began Painting: Renee started to paint At age 4 and still has her first artist apron in her possession. During childhood Renee was quick to toss away those crayons laying on the kitchen table and would say, “paint please”. Renee loved watching the flow of color drip on paper and grew serious about developing her drawing skills at age 12. She was often seen drawing on her bedroom door which she used as her drawing board. Art was a place of refuge from the bullying she faced from the neighborhood kids.

Education: After graduating from high school in 1978 Renee attended the David Hale Fanning School of Art and continued her education in Fine Art at the Community College of RI and later continued to pursue her love for art at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts. Renee is a self-taught oil painter and portrait artist.

Work History: After graduation from college Renee landed her first job working with a team of artists who painted murals as a group in which the paintings were installed in and on many commercial buildings throughout the state of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Renee also participated with team artists working for the U.S. government.

The artist has had the opportunity to participate in many public unveilings for such organizations as the Angels of the Snow Husky Rescue, the Boys and Girls Club of America and portraits of city officials beginning in 1997. Renee has also completed work for publishers and collectors throughout the years.

Childhood & Creative Exploration

Artistic Style & Process - Through the Milan Art Institute's Mastery Program, the artist refined her unique artistic style. Renee's passion for exploring diverse mediums is evident in her creative process, which starts with loose acrylic inks and acrylic paint washes, complemented by alcohol sprays. Her work often features the innovative use of stencils, acrylic spray paint, and a palette knife, allowing her to create textured effects and striking, bold strokes of paint. This blend of techniques showcases her dedication to evolving her artistry and pushing boundaries in her creative expressions.

Her art frequently delves into themes of strength, joy, peace, and healing, masterfully illustrated through vibrant, textured layers that beckon viewers to engage more deeply. Each piece invites a closer examination, encouraging an exploration of the emotions and narratives embedded within. The dynamic interplay of colors and textures not only captivates the eye but also resonates on a deeper level, inviting contemplation and introspection. Her ability to weave such profound themes into her work not only showcases her artistic prowess but also creates a space for connection and reflection between the art and the observer. Through her creations, she fosters an environment where strength and healing can coexist with joy and tranquility, making her work a powerful reflection of the human experience.

Self Challenge: After over 10 long years of suffering a serious illness the artist was not capable of painting, but during recovery Renee decided to pour out her heart and soul into her art, honing her skills and learning to express her innermost thoughts and emotions through her paintings. Renee believes that this challenge in life has brought her to a whole new level in her creative process.

Rebirth: Now in her later years Renee has developed a unique voice after she sought education once again with the Milan Art Institute Mastery Program, the artist states, “ The art program has truly transformed my creative journey, pushing me beyond my previously set limits. From the moment I stepped into the studio, I was challenged to explore new techniques and mediums that I had never considered before. Each project forced me to think outside the box, encouraging me to tap into my imagination and express my thoughts in ways I never thought possible.

The constructive feedback from my peers and instructors fueled my growth, motivating me to tackle more complex concepts as I grow in the style of abstract realism. Now, I find myself more confident in my abilities, willing to take risks, and embracing the beauty of imperfection. This program has not only honed my technical skills but has also instilled in me a deeper appreciation for the creative process itself. I am excited to see how far my life's journey will take me and what new limits I can surpass.
