Draped In Wonder - Contemporary Live Oak Tree Painting

An Original Live Oak Tree Nature painting draped in Spanish Moss in Renee Dumont’s Signature Atmospheric Impressionist Style.

Draped in Wonder began with something I have always found beautiful that others might simply overlook: Spanish moss.

To me, there is something magical about the way it hangs from an ancient live oak. It softens the tree, creates movement, and gives the landscape an almost dreamlike presence. What some may see as something old, tangled, or even a little wild, I see as extraordinary beauty—a gift from nature that makes me stop and wonder.

That feeling became the inspiration for Draped in Wonder.

In this 36 × 48 inch original mixed media oil painting, I wanted to capture more than the appearance of a live oak. I wanted to capture the feeling of standing beneath one—surrounded by its immense branches, hanging moss, filtered light, and the quiet mystery of nature.

This painting reflects my contemporary impressionist approach to nature, where expressive layers of texture and atmospheric light with softly dissolving forms allow the landscape to move beyond the literal and into something felt.

I paint the places where earth begins to feel like heaven—and sometimes, that feeling begins with seeing beauty in something others may pass right by.
